Role modeling excellence in clinical nursing practice is the focus of this paper. The phenomenological research study reported involved a group of 8 nurses identified by their colleagues as exemplary. The nursing profession has impressively evolved over time, and along with this transition came the development of different nursing theories. These theories provide the foundation of nursing practice, specifically nursing assessment, intervention, and evaluation. They also offer a framework for generating knowledge and new ideas.

There is evidence that the SOLER framework has been widely used in nurse education with little published critical appraisal.
